A Search for an Irish Paralympic Marathon Runner
While we train to complete our Marathon in Dublin in October 2012, we have not left go of our ultimate goal to find an Irish Athlete to compete in the Paralymic Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2016. We are compiling evidence that will pave the way and create a template for future endeavors.
We have taken an Amputee and turned him into a runner and ready to take part in Ireland's biggest Marathon. If this can be done in 9 months imagine what we could do if allowed to take 4 years to prepare an Athlete.
With a team of experts already in place and the use of the Facilities at the University of Limerick Sports Arena, a transformation can begin to take place. Not much research has taken place in Ireland in the past on Amputee runners, but with this project that we have designed for Simon and all the data being collected it is a first of it's kind. This information when correlated together will provide vital statistics, crucial training regimes and fundamental elemets of what type of individual and capabilities are required.
